Quilt Party!
Great day Monday at Quilt Party! So good to see everyone - we had a big crowd! It was sunny and cool, just a great day to be out and about and visiting with quilters. Everyone was working on projects, all so different from each other. Fun, fun, fun!
I'll throw in a pic from the garden - I was able to just about complete all the weeding in the back garden yesterday evening. I have to go back through with a tool to get the dandelions, there were only a few, thank goodness, but they gotta go!

Paducah 2015
Every year I say "I'm done with Paducah, I'm not coming back!" and every year, I go back. I don't know what it is about Paducah that keeps me coming back, perhaps it's the challenge. I guess my big negative about Paducah is it's lack of user friendliness. It just ain't easy to get around or find a place to sit or find something to eat & sit!
But something I love about Paducah, is that to see the whole show, you have to see Paducah - which is a great town! You must really stay for a couple of days to do it justice. And of course the quilts...what can you say? Words can't describe the quilts at this show, you just have to experience it for yourself.
So what did I see at Paducah this year? The vendors! I love the vendors at Paducah! It's like going down the midway at a fair, everyone working the crowd hard for sales, all sorts of stuff on sale, all sorts of people in the crowds - wonderful!! And what did I bring home? Not much, just small stuff I was looking for and had on my list. Here is what came home with me:
Note the "official" Paducah Quilt Week bag in the background of all this pics - the bag was a special request purchase for my friend, Melodie, who couldn't make it to Paducah this year. Great looking design this year! And, this was the 4th to the last bag at the AQS booth! Good thing I got off the bus and went right to the vendor area! The spool of thread is from a newbie vendor "Iris Threads." I bought a small spool to see how it sews for $4.00. It's called Iris Ultra quilting thread, 500 yds 50 wt. My shopping buddy, Cindy, bought the large cone for $10.00 to see how it quilts. We'll report back later!
I've been wanting one of these after trying it at Susan's house when we were sewing one day and I forgot my rotary cutter. I really liked it and put it on my "Paducah Shopping List." Well, this was probably the most entertaining booth at the show! Brian did a great job of pulling you in and trying to sell you everything Martelli makes - Cindy finally had to put her foot down and say "Look, we're on a bus tour and have limited time, we really just want the cutter & blades." Thank god for Cindy or I'd probably still be at the booth! :-)
This was a hard to find item. An oiler for my longarm. Anything for a longarm machine was hard to find at Paducah. No one was carrying supplies for longarms - not even the dealers! I finally found it on a second pass through the "bubble" vendor area in a little booth that had one small rack of notions - but there it was!
This was not on my list, but it was something I had been wishing for on a sewing project a little while ago. I was using invisible thread and could not keep it on the spool! These nets are for big spools, but you just cut them in half for a small spool.
Could not find the Indigo Junction pattern I was looking for, but saw this one being demo-ed and thought it was an interesting technique that Joyce O. and I might enjoy. I try not to buy a pattern unless it also teaches a technique. So we'll see how this goes...it's a miniature quilt & Joyce and I are into miniatures right now.
Freebees from Moda! Does it get any better? Yes, if they had been layer cakes!!
Needed some needles, for the Janome and the longarm. The schmetz needles I bought at at booth, went around the corner and found them for $0.75 less - O well! The needles for the longarm I got at the Superior Thread booth. For some reason, there wasn't anyone selling Signature Thread, which is one of the big items on both Cindy's and my list. Anyone know why no one was selling Signature Threads??
Last, but not least, are these 2 rulers for making miniature quilts - a request from Joyce O. Hope these are what she wanted!

Another WOWE Quilt
Here is a WOWE White Oak Women's Exchange quilt that I finished last week but had to wait for the rain to quit before I could photo it. I got carried away with the quilting, a little, but really enjoyed quilting it. Had a little difficultly with stitch quality (see the photo of the back of the quilt), but I think I finally got it adjusted - I've been tightening the quilt too much, gotta relax it a little!
Becky's Barn Retreat
Just got back from a great time at Becky's Barn in Grimley, TN - best quilting retreat facilities anywhere! We had a wonderful time, there were 9 of us and we had a blast! One of our quilters has a friend who is a retired extension agent; she came one day and demonstrated a fun project and then gave us a trunk show! Double Fun! We also visited a local winery, where I found out that "Wine can take the Bitch right out of me!" Of course there was lots of fellowship, sewing, eating and shopping - does it get any better? I think not.

Margaret made Mary the cute apron - it has choir ladies on it!
Becky came and visited with us every day and let us into her shop - so much fun! Becky is an amazing long arm quilter and the Barn is filled with her quilts, a real quilt show in itself. I got to talk with Becky a little bit about her machine, a Gammill, (yeah!) and enjoyed "picking her brains".
The Barn is set up perfectly for quilting and the sleeping arrangements are just right. Can't wait to go back!

Thank Goodness it's April!
Gosh, March was horrible! I was sick from the end of February through the middle of March and I'm glad it's all over (except for the upcoming root canals - plural).
I started quilting this quilt on the Gammill (and posted a little about it last month) just as I was starting to get a stomach bug. I finally finished it this month - it was fun to do and I learned a lot doing it! Here's a pic:
I did some free form feathers in the border and some fun stuff in the rest of it. Just a quilt pattern I wanted to try so I made a lap size. It's now hanging on the wire behind my Gammill with the string quilt and a few other fav quilts.
Another finish is the WOWE quilt that came from Joyce's stash and is absolutely wild and wonderful! I quilted it on the Gammill with a "double daisy chain" that is fun to do:
Took the pic outside in my garden - as you can tell, I haven't weeded out there yet! I do like the location for taking pictures and I may use it more often, once I get the garden weeded! Been focused on getting the front landscaping cleaned up before I get to the garden out back, would rather be in my garden, but....
